it was dark and quiet in the farmers town when the lynx came out
he had sneaked through the forest to the stable ahead where all the chickens sat

the chicken was not used to living alone
but the lynx used to live and hunt on his own
and it was dark and quiet

he leaps onto the wall walks across the roof
the chicken is asleep and cannot hear him move
he jumps to the ground - the chicken's awake
and afraid of his face and afraid and afraid

the lynx who lives on his own
he owns the world and conquers the day
the chicken lives never alone
but all these lives get taken away

the chicken said "don't kill me i'm too young to die
i was told i'd be safe if i stayed with the group and they never lie"

but the lynx said "they would never help you today
when i came you were sleeping and they ran away"
and he was hungry tonight

"why did they clip your wings" he said
"why don't you know how to care for yourself
you would have turned into junk food oneday
but i've chosen you now for the natural way"

the lynx who lives on his own
